Kafka stayed in Zürau, in the countryside of Bohemia, from September 1917 to April 1918, a month before his departure from Prague, tuberculosis was declared by spitting of blood. A Zürau, he lives with his sister Ottla in contact with the villagers but also animals (he speaks of the place as a "zoo arranged titanic according to new principles"). This is the context in which to experience the happiness away from the office, the family, the women he is experimenting with a new form for him, the aphorism. The set - one hundred and three pages separated - was baptized by Max Brod considerations over sin, suffering, hope and the true path.
This translation was made by Fabien Rothey who put it in line with the original text it has just a few days on his blog Art & Knowledge, titanic a blog to explore, including titanic translations from Russian. I warmly thank him for accepting that I might take it again on open works in a spirit of sharing.
